Paul I. Bulat, M.D., FACEP

President and Founder Paul I. Bulat, M.D., FACEP, is Board Certified in Emergency Medicine and is a Fellow of the American College of Emergency Physicians. A graduate of Holy Cross College and the University of Massachusetts Medical School, Dr. Bulat has been practicing emergency medicine since 1980.

Dr. Bulat has served as President of the Massachusetts College of Emergency Physicians (MACEP) and has received both the Vanguard Award and the Pinnacle Award from MACEP for his outstanding contributions to the specialty of emergency medicine. Dr. Bulat authored the MACEP discharge instruction sheets that were adopted by most emergency departments in Massachusetts and has authored chapters in major textbooks on emergency medicine and observation medicine.

Dr. Bulat is Chairman of the Department of Emergency Medicine at St. Luke's Hospital in New Bedford, MA. St. Luke's is a high-volume (72,000 visits per year) emergency department and is affiliated with the Beth Israel Deaconess Emergency Medicine Residency Program in Boston. In addition to his role in emergency medicine, Dr. Bulat is Medical Director of the Medical and Dental Staff at St. Luke's Hospital and is a certified administrator in physician practice management.

     
     
 

Daniel J. Shea, M.D., FACEP

Daniel J. Shea, M.D., FACEP
is Board Certified in both Emergency Medicine and Internal Medicine and is a Fellow of the American College of Emergency Physicians. A graduate of Saint Anselm College and Georgetown University School of Medicine, Dr. Shea has been practicing emergency medicine since 1981.

Dr. Shea has served as President of the Massachusetts College of Emergency Physicians (MACEP) and is a recipient of the Vanguard Award from MACEP in recognition of his outstanding contributions to the specialty of emergency medicine. Dr. Shea has authored several peer-review articles in medical journals and several chapters in major textbooks on emergency medicine. He also co-developed and directed an annual review course on emergency medicine that attracted a national audience. Dr. Shea serves as Vice-Chairman of the Department of Emergency Medicine at St. Luke's Hospital in New Bedford, MA.

     
     
 

Brenden F. Hayden, EMT-P

Brenden F. Hayden, EMT-P
has been active in pre-hospital emergency medical services (EMS) since 1988. He is a nationally registered paramedic and has served as a paramedic manager and EMS supervisor. He also directed a medical educational program for more than twelve years. Mr. Hayden also serves as Director of Quality Assurance for St. Luke's Emergency Associates, P.C. and liaison to area EMS services. In these roles, he has gained experience in a variety of management functions, including personnel management, staff recruitment and development, conflict resolution, program development and implementation, equipment management and allocation and software systems implementation. Mr. Hayden holds a wide variety of instructor and leadership certifications and has received several awards for professionalism in the field of emergency care.
     
     
 

Sam Shen, M.D., MBA

Sam Shen, M.D., MBA
worked as a management consultant for CSC Healthcare (formerly APM Management Consulting) where he developed strategic plans for large healthcare organizations. Dr. Shen also has experience as an investment banker at Deutsche Bank in their Healthcare Investment Banking Group. He received his bachelors degree at Stanford University, Master of Business Administration at Anderson School of Management at UCLA and his M.D. at UCLA School of Medicine. Dr. Shen is Board Certified in Emergency Medicine and completed his Emergency Medicine residency at the Harvard Affiliated Emergency Residency at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston, MA.
     
     
 

Maureen Petersen

Chief Financial Officer
Maureen R. Petersen, CPA, MST
joined us in June 2006. Ms. Petersen is a certified public accountant with sixteen years of experience in corporate and individual taxation. For the past nine years she has gained valuable experience providing practice management and consulting services to for-profit healthcare practices. She has been involved in the start-up and ongoing management of emergency medicine, radiology and hospitalist practices. Prior to joining PhoneDOCTORx, she worked for the public accounting firm of Edelstein & Company, LLP in Boston, MA. Ms. Petersen earned a Bachelor of Science degree in accounting from Babson College in 1990 and a Master of Science in Taxation from Bentley College in 1999. She is also a member of the Massachusetts Society of Certified Public Accountants.
